Stop.
Breathe.
Watch the sunrise.
And don't forget to take photos.
Turn off the news.
Make mistakes.
Drive an hour or two or three more if you can or have to.
Spend too much on a hotel or Airbnb.
Bring a loved one to share it with. Remember to kiss her. Remember to rest. Remember to slow down and accept that you'll only scratch the surface because it all takes more time than you think.
See some neighborhoods. Have some caffeine. Clear the cobwebs. Pop in the stores. Buy a tchotchke, make it two. Hear the local lore, hear about the streets, the city, the town, the buildings, the pride, the angst, the shame, the museums, the highways, the blocked off streets, the too busy intersections, the bridges, the beggars, the blight, because they're all so different, even if people are pretty much just people.
So stop and breathe.
Be a tourist for once.
Watch the sunrise.
And don't forget to take photos.
What do you think? And when was the last time you saw the sunrise?
