An image floating around the internet looks a lot like the Buffalo Bills logo. Only it isn’t.
It's a heat map… lots of red dots in an arch across the face of America…
Those dots are all of the booked AirBnBs in the path of the Total Eclipse of the Sun that we hope to see on Monday.
Unless it’s cloudy. I suppose.
My town, Rochester, NY is right smack in the middle of it all. Next to Lake Ontario.
For a few minutes, we’re expected to see something I’ve never heard of: totality. In other words, the sun will be blocked for a few minutes. It hasn’t happened for a century in my part of the world.
Pandemonium is expected.
Our burg whose population is between 200 thousand and 750 thousand depending on how you slice is expected to swell. Some estimates claim we’ll add 100,000, or 200,000, or 500,000 people over the next few days.
Pretty cool. But frankly, I’ll believe it when I see it.
And then there’s all the traffic warnings around here.
Schools and most government buildings are closed.
Most of us have heard here or there not to drive on Monday or Eclipse Day.
And if you do get where you’re going by about noon because traffic which is barely a problem here is expected to be a bear.
I suppose it’s worth it. I’ve never experienced anything like it. A friend reminded me that we won’t see it again. And our kids likely won’t either. Our grandkids or maybe great grandkids… in the strange world of the 2120s … will. Wow. Some wonders never cease.
On that note I’m James Brown and as always be well.
