Owning Yourself

A misquote got me thinking... and back on the horse

Ever feel like the world's trying to squeeze you into a mold?

Someone once said, "The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. To be your own person is hard business. You'll be lonely often and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself."

That hits home, doesn't it? In a time when conformity is the norm, standing out feels like swimming upstream. Social media tells us what's cool, what's acceptable, what's worth our time. It's like we're all dancing to someone else's tune.

But think about the people who inspire us—the innovators, the trailblazers, the ones who didn't just accept the status quo. They faced loneliness and fear, sure, but they gained something priceless: authenticity.

It's not easy being the odd one out. You'll have moments when you question yourself, wonder if it's worth it. i certainly do. But what can I say, I can't help it.

Because owning yourself—your thoughts, your choices, your path—is a privilege that outweighs the costs. I hope so.

So here's my question: What's one step you can take today to own your life a little more?
