Steve Harvey's move to Facebook and coronavirus slows the travel of journalists

Steve Harvey’s show is back and made for Facebook. The comedian’s talk show was resurrected 6 months after  it was canceled last June. Its the second version of Harvey’s successful talker.

Harvey left the first version of his talk show three years ago renamed it “Steve,” and moved the production  to Los Angeles in 2017.

The new deal got Harvey an ownership stake, a bigger salary and creative control which led too retooling the show by bringing in more comedic elements and celebrities with mixed results

Lower ratings and dispute with his distributor led to the cancellation last summer.

After talking a few months off to travel the world Harvey’s show re-emerged from Tyler Perry studios in Atlanta on Facebook Watch

The shorter streamlined version of the show looks and feels like the previous versions. It’s built around Harvey’s popular motivational and advice based segments which often trend on Facebook and YouTube with some kids and celebrity interviews sprinkled in.

Harvey’s new show has a 10 week test run on Facebook no word yet if it will be renewed but just a few days ago Harvey tweeted that his new episodes have topped 100 million views.

It’s the latest part of Facebook’s video pivot away from scripted shows toward unscripted shows like Mike Rowe’s Returning the Favor, Jada Pinket Smith’s Red Table Talk, and of course Steve Harvey.

The Daily beast is reporting that newsrooms are reconsidering travel due to the coronavirus.

CNN sent a memo to staff on Monday morning restricting all work travel, and limiting events staffing to “absolutely critical” personnel.

The New York  Times itself restricted “non-essential business travel” to and from China. the Wall Street Journal that reporters may continue domestic work-related travel, the company will be “pulling back on travel to conferences and other discretionary trips.” Condé Nast and business insider have taken simulated steps.
