Imagine writing down the thoughts in your head on pieces of paper. Take those pieces of paper and tie them to balloons. Imagine releasing the balloons one by one. Watch them float away in the blue sky. Keep watching until they disappear from your view.

This is a little meditation that I have found helpful to quiet those anxious thoughts, adapted from DBT. I sometimes imagine that I fold the papers in to paper boats and watch them float away down a creek. Fire is another good visual to focus on.

Then, when you find those thoughts creeping back at inopportune times, imagine those pieces of paper floating away, and then focus back on what you need to do.
