A recurring point made by clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson is the need for us to take responsibility for our own lives he said it well in a recent tweet.
Adopt responsibility for your own well-being try to put your family together try to serve your community try to seek for eternal truth that's the sort of thing that can ground you in your life enough so that you can withstand the difficulty of life
Over the years, Peterson has aimed this train of thought at young men.
“For men, there is nothing but responsibility,” he says. “By neglecting responsibility, men may be missing out on the true meaning of life and what makes our suffering worthwhile.”
It rings true for me.
When COVID ate the world, one of my bosses told me to go home.
I didn't wanna go.
That night I realized why.
There wasn't much to go home to.
I poured all I was into work only to have someone be able to snatch it away from me.
I realized that our family, our community, our beliefs, our relationships, as flawed as they are, are ours to keep.
With some luck and some effort, they're our safe harbor during life's storms.
