What's the old expression, "A happy wife is a happy life"? I'd say the same is true for employees. If companies are able to provide more of these soft benefits such as flexibility where the work is completed, they'll have a happier and more productive workforce over time which will equate to less turnover which will also boost bottom lines (one would think). I constantly had this discussion with my HR folks in the school district I served as teacher union president. Mrs. Smith has indicated a preference for working in Building A. If that makes Mrs. Smith happier, guess what, she'll be a better teacher. Let's honor these requests whenever possible b/c they become win/wins.
