If Donald Trump is convicted and half the country thinks the trial is bogus, will it matter at all?
That's the question we should all be asking as the former president and presumptive Republican presidential nominee faces criminal charges in a hush-money trial.
Trump is charged with the cover-up of a $130,000 payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels before of the 2016 presidential election. If convicted, he'd likely face little to no jail time.
But if the polls are right —- and that is of course — is a big if, —- what happens in Manhattan will have little to no effect on Trump’s presidential ambitions.
Quinnipiac University poll from MarchA found that 55 percent of registered voters don’t care how this case turns out.
29 percent said they'd be less likely to support Trump
A near majority of democrats — Forty-nine percent — say a conviction would make them less likely to vote Trump.
But Democrats are not Trump’s audience. It's the rest of us.
But —-all— of us will have to ask this question for four different trials.
So I’ll ask again — If Donald Trump is convicted and half the country thinks the trial‘s outcome has no meaning, will it matter at all?
I say it likely won’t.
Which begs another question. What the hell are we doing here?
And what is to come?
