That's the sound of me riding shotgun on a highway between Toledo and Youngstown, Ohio. For those of you who haven't taken a true road trip recently I recommend it It's been a while for me.
It's an escape, a step away from the daily grind.
As I navigate my way through a familiar yet far city, not knowing what or where to go or eat or much about each town, my mental fog clears.
First things become first, the hard things don't seem as hard, and I gain a fresh view of myself, my life, and work and our great vast nation.
So much of America feels far away, and for good reason, because it is.
But as an old man once told me back in college, “they're just roads.”
Highways as bumpy, destructive, and imperfect as they are, are a tie that binds in a world with fewer of them.
What are you think? When was your last road trip? And where should I go next?
